The final qualifying event of the year for a coveted spot in the Annual Ford Ironman Championship, sponsored here on October 9, takes place this weekend along the spectacular Kohala Coast, Big Island of Hawaii. Nearly 1600 contestants from throughout the world will swim, bike and run some 70.3 miles (exactly 1/2 the distance of the annual October championship) in their bid for the remaining 72 slots in the prestigious endurance championship. Twenty-four of those slots are reserved exclusively for full-time residents of Hawaii Island. The 2010 Rohto Ironman 70.3 triathlon gets started with an early morning (7 a.m.) splash. "Team Honu" from Holualoa Inn will be out on Saturday, June 5, cheering on our hometown favorites. Join us!

Congratulations to all the finishers (and all those who participated) -- and special good wishes for those who qualified for the Ironman Championship here on Hawaii Island in October -- a not-to-be-missed annual Hawaii sporting event!
