Big Island Film Festival Begins May12!

Tagged a "Talk Story" film festival, the annual Big Island Film Festival (hosted on the Big Island's spectacular Kohala Coast) celebrates independent narrative filmmakers and their short and feature films -- many of which make their debut here. Several different outdoor and indoor venues at the Mauna Lani Resort (an easy and scenic 40-minute drive from Holualoa Inn) are used throughout the festival keeping things fresh and exciting over the 5-day event (May 12-16). The festival features screenings from Hawaiian filmmakers and independent filmmakers from around the globe. Among this year's highlights, actor Tom Berenger will be honored for his work in film throughout the years, along with filmmaker Scott Stewart. Interviews and award ceremonies honoring these two film industry greats take place Friday, May 14 and Saturday, May 15 at 5:30 p.m. at The Shops at Mauna Lani's Ohana Theater -- these two events are open to the public with no entry fee! Hawaii Island Mother's Day Celebrations!

Numerous Big Island restaurants are offering fabulous options for brunch, lunch and dinner to celebrate all the Moms in your life. One that really caught our eye is the day-long "Mother's Day Prix Fixe Menu" offered by Mi's Italian Bistro in South Kona. Stellar Big Island Chef Morgan Star has created a three-course menu that has our mouth's watering -- your choice of homemade soup or salad, a tempting selection of 4 special entrees to choose from (including Parmesan Encrusted Ono with Meyer Lemon Beurre Blanc and a dish that has us curious: Italian Style Shepherd's Pie with Big Island grass fed beef and creamy mashed potatoes), and dessert. All at a price that cannot be beat for Chef Morgan's "everything house made, everything made with the finest, seasonal organic or sustainably grown ingredients" cooking. Highly recommended. Offered from 11:30 am to 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Mi's Italian Bistro is a pleasant and scenic 30-40 minute drive from Holualoa Inn.
